GuitarBox 1.0 is back!!

Hi there,

This section is dedicated to my beloved GuitarBox, the first app for the PSP on its kind.

GuitarBox is my first PSP App written in C++. GuitarBox 1.0. is a REAL TIME multieffects processor with several traditional guitar effects. I developed this application almost a year ago, since then I was kind of busy on my PhD Studies. However, I’d like to continue with the GuitarBox saga developing a 2.0. version that will include a guitar tuner and other guitarist’s must-have effects.

In you want to give a try you can visit the following inks:

How to build the connection cable:

In a future post I’ll include some instructions, sound samples, and videos as well.

What is that silver/white thing? I can only find a spanish tutorial on making the cord and they dont specify what the hell that is.

    Hi,
The silver/white “thing” is the earphone remote control accessory (e.g. http://store.richspsxparts.com/pspeawireco.html), generally it is included with a PSP bundle (so you normally should have it). This device has a special audio entry (3 connector plug) which is at same time input/output. Just go to any electronic shop and for sure you can find all the components. The setup displayed is the easiest way to have the cable (cord) without soldering.

    Regards

ah ok thanks! Ya i was pretty confused. I assumed it was maybe just a volume adapter. Theoretically that is optional correct?

    Hi,
In order to plug your guitar (or any audio source) you need this accessory which is the only way to plug an audio signal (audio input, and additionally allows you to plug headphones -audio output- as well). Without the earphone remote control you can only plug headphones to your psp (audio output). So, the accessory is REQUIRED by GuitarBox; as I previously said, the accessory is generally included with the PSP and is also required for some PSP games.

Hola!…

Dude, your blog has given me, a music student on a tight budget, a way to save a buttload of money using only my smarts and some cables. You need to continue innovating these useful tools!

    Hi everyone, here Rocamatics.

Thanks to everybody for the posts, sorry for this lag.. if everything goes fine with my studies I will have some extra time for GuitarBox 2.0 on March! Thanks to P23 for the indications for running GBOX with LEDA. Please be patient!, you won’t be disappointed. The main issue now, apart from time, is multithreading (needed by the guitar tuner) is a bit tricky and, most of all, undocumented on the PSP. The guitar tuner is a must on the new release, as well as the chorus (algorithm’s code already implemented in a C# probe). I’ll try the CPU’s acceleration features as well (e.g. less latency).

By the way, another crazy idea to discuss: to hack the PSP remote controller in order to convert it into a real PEDALBOARD (e.g. control the patch banks, volume, expression pedal, switching effects, etc..). Here, in Belgium, the PSP remote part costs only 10euros, could be a cool thing… let’s see what happens :).

Other idea, maybe later: have a separate version of GBOX (FX BOX?) to use it like a effects machine with real time parameter changes (e.g. KORG KAOSS PAD http://www.korg.com/Product.aspx?pd=278 ).

    Cheers!

This seems like such a great app. Can’t wait to get the proper cables to try it out. Using it as a multifx unit seems like a great way to use it. Perhaps there could be support for some kind of pluggable effects, so other people can make effects to use in the app, kind of like VST plugins.

Hey Rocamatics’s. I love your software GBOX, being a Guitarist my self I am slightly disappointed that I am unable to run GBOX on my Own PSP slim.

I was wondering if maybe you could release a version of it for the SLIM? Instead of the out-dated 1.50 Kernel.

If you could do this I know of tons that would find this to good use! This is probably one of my most favorite pieces of software for the PSP! Keep up the good work!

Great app, also works on gen firmware running via noobs eloader.
Just be sure to turn off the plugins that may interfere with eloader first or it’ll hang.

I’ll test with a psp 2002 next week when i can get a remote for it.

Are you still interested in continuing the project, time permitting?
